Commission
Artwork
Typically, I will paint from my own photographs, and reference sketches of
the subject. I take a series of photos, pick a few main compositional reference
photos, and use the rest for reference on detail, etc.
Ideally, I would be able to see the subject in person and take reference photographs.
Actually observing and sketching the subject helps me capture the unique characteristics.
There's no substitute for observation. No matter how good a photograph is,
it still misses many color and value nuances. Even if I shoot a whole roll
of film in one location, I would still be better able to paint a compelling
painting if I take the time to observe, sketch contours and values, and make
color notes. It is not always possible to have extensive first-hand contact,
but it is ideal. I may return to the subject during the course of a painting
to revisit a particular feature.
I can work from photographs provided by a client if the photo is very detailed
and excellent quality. A copyright release from the actual photographer must
accompany these photos prior to me using them to work from. The print needs
to be large, at least 4"- 6". Larger prints are best or a large,
high quality image from a digital camera. The clearer and more detailed the
photo, the better. Blurry photos cannot be used. I'll often times request
many photos to see the subject's personality. Portraits may take 2-8 weeks
to complete depending on my schedule of work.

What
are they?
Digital artwork is a drawing/painting that are made on the computer. I use
photos for reference so the image requirements are the
same as the ones for the above type of artwork. However, instead of being
hand drawn on paper or canvas, with the help of Wacom's Graphire pen
and tablet, I can draw the images on the computer using all the tools and
brushes (mostly the airbrush) in Adobe Photoshop.
The nice thing about a digital piece is that once it is made, you can order
lots of different sizes in prints and also choose from the type
of print that you want such as canvas, heavy watercolor art paper, or even
photograph papers. Re-ordering is simple since we archive the digital file,
and can easily be sent to the printers anytime. Aand you will only pay for
the cost of the print you re-order. The drawback is that there is no
"original" like there is in a pencil drawing or canvas painting.
The pricing is per image, not per square inch, and can be sized at any of
the print
sizes available.
If
you want to do a commission of this type, you will pay for the design time
($299.00), white or one color background,
or ($399.00) with an average background. Additional subjects are $75.00 per
subject. Then you choose the size
and type of print as shown below.
